The section of the West Highland Way north of Inversnaid is considered by many to be the most challenging terrain of the entire route where the route winds along the side of Loch Lomond between trees and crags. Please allow additional time for this section and take extra care, particularly in or after wet weather where the ground may be especially muddy, slippery or, in places, partially washed away.
Notes on Multi-Use Access of the WHW are available from the British Horse Society Scotland. Whilst written for riders, these notes are useful for all route users, who are responsible for deciding for themselves whether this route, or any part of it, is suitable for their intended use, taking account of their own abilities, skills, fitness and experience, as well as season, weather conditions etc.
